I LOVE shaping surfboards and I'm kinda obsessed with this craft. Even though I am about to shape my 243th board I'm still considering myself as a novice but I hope to become a master one day... This blog is a virtual portfolio and a diary of my journey in the shaping world. Feel free to leave comments or contact me directly at valerie@meremadesurfboards.com.

board#022: shortboard for me (with SWOP)

Dimensions: 6'3 x 20 3/4 x 2 5/8
[completed in May 2013]

First of all, I have surfed that board 5 times to this date and it is my favorite stick EVER. In addition of being an amazing surfing machine, board#022 is very precious to me. This board was a joined effort from the SWOP team and Mère-Made Surfboards when David Charbonnel and his partner (work and life partner), Fredo Seyral, came to visit us last May. See details here.

The shape: David designed the shape from scratch, mixing some templates I had in the shaping room. I simply watched the Master playing with the curves to create an harmonic outline which would allow me to ride a shorter board without loosing too much of the paddling ability. He then led the shaping part, letting me mimic his gestures and correcting when needed (quite few times!).

The artwork: the idea of the animal print came from a joke with my friend Sylvain who keeps calling me "The Little Couggy" (Thank you for that Sylvain!). Well, I am actually very near from being one so why not having a cougar board :) The pink was inspired by a Victoria Secret pattern. The actual cougar spots were drew by Fredo Seyral. The amazing glass job was done by Bing in Encinitas.

I could not be happier with the result of this collaborative work. Perfect board. And the best news is that I get to keep it because it is MINE :))))

every time I took it out, I got nice comments from total strangers:
definitely a conversation starter :)

Happy!
