I LOVE shaping surfboards and I'm kinda obsessed with this craft. Even though I am about to shape my 243th board I'm still considering myself as a novice but I hope to become a master one day... This blog is a virtual portfolio and a diary of my journey in the shaping world. Feel free to leave comments or contact me directly at valerie@meremadesurfboards.com.

board#083: noserider for Arlin

Arlin and her Beast

dimensions: 9'0 x 21 3/4 x 3 1/16
[completed in January 2016]

The story: Arlin was a long-time Facebook Friend from Texas when she decided it was time to have a Mere-Made Surfboards! While being in vacation in California, she came to visit my shaping room with her family. We sat down and talked board, her next board. It was so nice meeting with her in person. FB is great for connecting with people but really, what makes a new friend is interacting in real life!

The shape: Arlin wanted a nose rider and she sent me a couple of boards she liked/tried. She decided what would be the best dimensions for her and I started creating her board based on the McTavish Fireball model with some rocker and a smooth spoon. The shaping was exhausting like any boards that barely fit in my shaping room ;)

The artwork: the theme was the Lion of Judah. Arlin send me a bunch of different pictures and I picked the one I thought would be feasible (I am not a drawer... I shape boards ;)). I suggested a off-center position on the bottom. I loved the result as it was so in the spirit of my brand: big and contrasted.

Arlin came back all the way from Texas to pick-up her board. I couldn't let her go back home without surfing with her. When she took her board in the water for the first time, I was there! Priceless.
