I LOVE shaping surfboards and I'm kinda obsessed with this craft. Even though I am about to shape my 243th board I'm still considering myself as a novice but I hope to become a master one day... This blog is a virtual portfolio and a diary of my journey in the shaping world. Feel free to leave comments or contact me directly at valerie@meremadesurfboards.com.

board#017: shortboard for Vincent

Dimensions: 5'10 x 18 1/8 x 1 7/8
[completed in december 2012]

One more shortboard for my most demanding and loyal customer: my husband. Same dimensions than the 3 other ones. The good news is that I am getting better at shaping that particular shape as I keep doing it over and over. Only the artwork changes.
This time, Vincent wanted a plain red board. I decided to add the Halo logo. Halo is a very popular video game on XBox360 that my hubby plays with my son (they are both video game geeks!). I even downloaded the Halo font for the dimensions label. The logo was printed out on rice paper by Boardlams, a very cool company which prints out custom graphics on vinyl or rice paper. Great resource for complicated designs. Plus, the Boardlams staff is extra nice and helpful.

For the first time, the glassing was done at Bing Surfboards, located on "the Hills" of Encinitas. In addition of the convenience, it is an honor to have a surfboard glassed by Bing's very classy and talented crew. A particular thanks to Adam, store manager and Beacons' friend, for getting physically involved in finishing up the board in time for Christmas!
