I LOVE shaping surfboards and I'm kinda obsessed with this craft. Even though I am about to shape my 243th board I'm still considering myself as a novice but I hope to become a master one day... This blog is a virtual portfolio and a diary of my journey in the shaping world. Feel free to leave comments or contact me directly at valerie@meremadesurfboards.com.

board #007: (another) shortboard for Vincent

Dimensions: 5'10 x 18 x 2
[completed in december 2011]

Vincent had board #003 and board#004. Now he really wanted to have board #007. First reason: he “broke” his board#003 on a big aerial which he landed on the flat part of the wave instead of the face… He fixed the board himself. It is still rideable but for how long?

It was time for me to go back to Mission Impossible: shape a second board for my picky husband (see Mission Impossible 1: http://meremadesurfboards.blogspot.com/2011/10/board-003-ultra-light-shortboard-for.html). I used the same template but with another blank with more natural rocker. I bought it from Millenium Foam. I liked the way you can easily order a blank online and choose the different features (density, stringer wood, color, rocker...) from a drop-down menu.   The customer service is really nice too (Thank you Jimmy ;)). They are located near LA but they delivered the blank for free (!!!) at the brand new Bing workshop in Encinitas, just a couple minutes away from my house. How perfect! I will definitely use Millenium blank for my future boards.

For the design of board #007, I had no other choice board that to go with a James Bond theme. Besides, the James Bond movies were Vince’s dad favorites. The board has definitely an emotional vibe.

The glassing, very very light as usual for light weight husband, was done at Global Glassing with tail and knee pads to make it more durable (hopefully). Good job guys!

so thin you can see through

"Board, my name is Board..."

It looks good in my house
but it will look even better in the water

James Bond girl? No, no! Shaper girl ;)

  1. That is sooo cool.. I hope you have taken a full pix of each board you made. You should frame them and put them on a wall! Seriously.. such works of art.. SO does this mean mine is #008 =).. I hope so that is a great number. It is a very lucky number and I could use all the luck I can get!!

  4. Very nice...does it prefer to be shaken, as opposed to stirred when in the stoke-zone! :-)
