I LOVE shaping surfboards and I'm kinda obsessed with this craft. Even though I am about to shape my 243th board I'm still considering myself as a novice but I hope to become a master one day... This blog is a virtual portfolio and a diary of my journey in the shaping world. Feel free to leave comments or contact me directly at valerie@meremadesurfboards.com.

board #006: funboard for Tony

Dimensions: 8'2 x 22 5/8 x 3
[completed in November 2011]

This board was finished earlier this month but I could not post about it. Indeed, this was a special order from a girlfriend for her boyfriend, both co-workers of my husband. Nicki wanted to surprise Tony with a custom board (his first surfboard ever!!!). So sweet!  He started surfing last summer. By chance I knew the kind of board he likes to ride as he borrowed our "guest" board for a while and enjoyed it very much. I just copied it from nose to tail with a bit more volume (thickness) to make sure he catches all his dream waves ;)

The design and colors were a no brainer as I was told that Tony was a HUGE fan of the LA Lakers. Besides, I really liked the purple/yellow colors which remind some old style longboard.

This board is very special to me. I almost did not want to sell it as it was a joint effort of Mère-made Surfboards and S.A.W. Surfboards. My friend and "shaper around the world" (http://learntoshapearoundtheworld.blogspot.com/), Loic (see previous post), did an amazing job glassing it in Mexico at Orozco Surfboards where he spent 2 weeks. He draw the white pinelines and went for a really nice polish. When I saw the finished board I was in shock. I thought about not selling it.... and then I read the line that says "For Tony" on it.... so I let it go...
